About Us

Happy Endings Productions was founded by Dara O'Briain and Seamus Cassidy. Since 2003 we have produced over 100 hours of programming in Ireland and the UK, including nine series of comedy talk show, The Panel; Buried Alive, a one on one interview show hosted by Dara, Smoke and Mirrors, a variety series with Andrew Maxwell; The History of the Future with Phill Jupitus, for BBC4; This is Ireland, a comedy special for BBC2; Things That Went Boom in The Bust, a one off on businesses that have thrived in recession. The company specializes in comedy, entertainment and factual entertainment, and in addition to its commissioned work has produced two series of Saturday Night with Miriam, RTÉ's hit chat show fronted by Miriam O'Callaghan.

Most recently, we've produced hit series Dirty Old Towns with Diarmuid Gavin, the first series of which pulled in audiences in excess of 30% on RTÉ 1. The second series is currently in production, and the format is the subject of international interest.

Dara O'Briain is now established as a major star in UK comedy. He is the presenter of hit topical comedy show Mock The Week, and he's spent more time on water with Rory McGrath and Griff Rhys Jones than any man alive, in the Three Men and a Boat series. He has also become a vital part of The Apprentice, and written a best selling book. And released best-selling DVDs. And been on a programme with charismatic, goodlooking astronomer Brian Cox about astronomy. And advised on the role of culture in the Irish economy. And had a column in the Guardian about football. (Well, about his beloved Arsenal.) And appeared on radio shows. And panel games. And chat shows. And yet he still speaks to the likes of us. When he's not curing life-threatening diseases, or chatting with Nobel Laureates about how they might crack problems in quantum physics, no doubt.

Seamus Cassidy was Channel 4's Senior Commissioning Editor for Entertainment for more than ten years, during which time he commissioned shows such as Father Ted, Don't Forget Your Toothbrush, Brass Eye, Whose Line Is It Anyway, Drop The Dead Donkey, The Crystal Maze and Jack Dee, and a lot of shows that no-one remembers any more. He spent two years in development at Planet 24, before moving to Ireland to set up Happy Endings with Dara. In that time, he has produced or exec produced all of Happy Endings output, and also found time to shepherd the first series of RTÉ's runaway hit, Podge and Rodge, onto the airwaves in 2006. He is currently executive producing Dirty Old Towns 2, a documentary on English songwriter, Luke Haines Art Will Save the World, and a number of developments, including a feature film for the IFB, Future Fathers. He is insanely jealous of Dara O'Briain getting to write a column about Arsenal in The Guardian, and wishes that he could write about his favourite team, Derry City.
